Lupus?

I live in the US, so I don't know how to maneuver the Canadian healthcare system. I know you have an active lupus community up there. My recommendation reflects familiarity with US healthcare. First of all, I am so sorry, but you are doing well to reach out. I recommend you become fully informed about the disease, as upsetting as that process may be. Seek treatment from facilities that specialize in lupus treatment. Research shows that patients in specialized facilities do better over the long term than patients who are in community facilities. An excerpt from a paper published by the US National Institutes of Health: Lupus patients should be under the care of a lupus specialist early in their disease course for better control of their disease activity and to minimize use of GCS". Although you have to trust your doctors, you should understand treatment options--benefits and risks. Again, I am sorry. But a lupus diagnosis today is not what it was years ago. So many effective treatments exist. Your child should do fine with proper medical care.
