A Journey Through Time: Chhoto Sona Mosjid !!!

Last year, I had the opportunity to visit the wonderful structures and sculptures of North Bengal, in the hope of seeing history and cultural heritage. The first historical place of the Rajshahi tour was the Chhoto Sona Mosjid in Chapainawabganj. I am going to write about it in this post.

"Chhota Sona Mosjid"

The Chhoto Sona Mosjid is located in the Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj district. This mosque is a unique example of the art of Muslim architects. A stone inscription on the main entrance indicates that the mosque was built by Wali Muhammad bin Ali during the reign of Sultan Hussain Shah from 1493 to 1519.

The mosque is surrounded by a stone wall on the outside. This mosque is one of the finest examples of architecture in Bangladesh. It is said that the mosque was once covered with gold, that is why it is known as the Sona Mosjid. Since there is a larger mosque in India near the Bangladesh-India border named Sona Mosjid, this mosque is known to everyone as the Choto Sona Mosjid.

The Sona Mosjid is covered with glazed tiles. The small Sona Mosque has 12 domes on its exterior. The mosque's walls are about 6 feet thick and are covered with stone tiles on the inside and outside. The west side of the wall is adjacent to a large pond. The pond is a popular spot for locals to relax and enjoy the scenery. Currently, the Department of Archaeology of the Government of Bangladesh is responsible for the maintenance of the historic Chhoto Sona Mosjid.

My visit to the Chhoto Sona Mosjid was a wonderful experience. The mosque is a masterpiece that still inspires and amazes people today. I left the mosque with a new appreciation for its beauty and importance.
