Witchcraft, the problem with traditions

Many witches tend to claim lineages that go all the way back to ancient times. They see these traditions as being extremely potent due to their longevity. However, blindly following a tradition because it is "powerful" can be harmful. We need to be able to discern what type of magick and practices work for us. Performing rituals that you don't resonate with will only serve to hold you back from your true potential. It's important to think outside the box that a tradition can bring along with it.

Traditions naturally provide some much-needed structure to beginner witches coming out of dogmatic religions. They also offer a sense of community to what feels like the wild west of witchcraft to beginners. Nevertheless eventually, it is important to push the boundaries of magick and rituals. Making your own rituals and practicing the type of magick you find most efficient and the most useful will lead you to create a more fulfilling practice and becoming the best witch you can be.
