Mine Kill (Falls) State Park

Mine Kill Falls is an amazing (barely) off the road waterfall, partially viewable from a bridge above. To gain the full picture you have to walk the trails, as it is situated inside a small chasm that houses its three-tiered structure.

The one thing I find most fascinating is the way the water tricks the eyes into looking like there is much less flow at the top than there is at the base. The chasm opens into the basin at the bottom and seems to multiply the amount of water filling the bowl.

Located in Gilboa, NY, it's a bit out of the way but well worth the trip. The falls is located away from the main park and trail system. Heading south, passing the main entrance, there is parking on the left shortly after passing over the bridge mentioned above.

From the parking area, check out the top viewing platform first. Then follow the trail down hill to the basin. Its a great hike!
