Muscular dystrophy; A disease without cure

Muscular dystrophy refers to a group of muscle diseases that results in progressive weakening and skeletal muscles breakdown over time

Muscular dystrophy is caused by genetic mutations that interfere with muscle proteins needed to maintain healthy muscles

The symptoms of muscular dystrophy are; trouble walking,  increasing weakening, breakdown of skeletal muscles and falling while walking.

There are 30 types of muscular dystrophy and the most common
one is Duchenne muscular dystrophy which mostly affect males.

Muscular dystrophy cannot be cured but it can be managed with physiotherapy, assisted ventilation in the case of weak breathing muscles, braces, steroids to slow down degeneration of muscles, immunosuppressants to slow down damage to dying muscle cells and anticonvulsants to control seizures.
