A bridge over Bow River in Banff

To continue my photography tour from Canada - a photo from the banks of Bow river with Mt Rundle in the background.

First thought: What a perfect place to celebrate St Patrick's day! Fed with water steams from the emerald coloured alpine lakes in the Canadian Rockies this river maintains its colour even in shallow waters. You'd think the water is coloured artificially with lots of green beer, but it's all natural : ) The green comes from the mountain glaciers, sliding down and shaving minerals off the surface of the mountains. The minerals gets dissolved into the streams and lakes to give them this unusual colour. Have you seen the Blue Lake in Mt Gambier, South Australia? Now you have to see the green waters of the river and surrounding lakes to add to the feeling of wonder.
