A few pics and finishing a project
First the obligatory pretty pictures 😉 I found a flower in my beds I haven't posted. This is a cosmo.
My wife had some old cosmos seeds from a neighbor so she tossed them into some open space in one of our beds. And now we have a nice unexpected splash of color.
A couple more pretty pictures. My golden spice pears are ripening. Last year they mysteriously disappeared. My money is on a squirrel 😠
This is a pretty apple on a sad tree. My Winecrisp tree always manages a few apples but struggles with Cedar Apple Rust. You can see a little of the brown splotches on the leaves.
I shared some photos of my new flower beds that everyone seemed to like so I took a few more while we were planting the bed. We started with some salvia.
All the plants for these new beds came from beds in front of my house I am cleaning up.
Blackeyed susans are easy to move and will spread once they get established.
Here's the second bed. We planted them both the same with the salvia and blackeyed susans.
Then of course we watered them in. I read online that this is actually a pretty good time to move perennials. We were moving them no matter what but its always good to check 😆 its ideal to wait until they are dormant but once it cools down leading into fall you can move them and they will have some time to establish roots.

Down here we usually get a lot of rain the first couple weeks of September. So we were told it was the best time to plant pastures as the weeds couldn't get a hold. So that was always what we did.
And I'm not taking that bet on the pears. It's a sure thing!
I grew up in Kansas so there were a lot of pastures. In fact my parents ran cattle for 15 years or so after they retired. But anyway its gets in your blood so I always look at the condition of pastures when I drive by... no shrub growing up, no weeds, is the fence line clean and in good shape, hows the grass look. I'm saddened around here because there are lots of fields where they used to grow hay or pasture dairy cattle that are not being used. Because they aren't used they aren't kept up, they aren't mowed and they fill up with weeds. They will eventually go back to nature and find their balance of natural plants but initially they just go to weeds and disrepair.
I like the design of your beds.

Yes, I know about all that here. No more cows and the pastures are going to crap. I manage to get them mowed once a year by the mulch hay guy, but it means fixing fences for me. So I've just started that project.
I'm also betting on the squirrel... In my home, there are two of them in the tree next door, they're munching on every single fruit 😤

I have over 4 acres of mainly wooded land. Some XX years ago about a half acre of it got cleared in the thought process of placing a home on it but plans changed. Current spot isn't near that4+ acres but is also surrounded by trees. I always had the thought of putting in a wood stove in my home. Did a little cutting back in the day as some family members utilize wood stoves.
My dream is to cut wood for free heating 🙂 but our house isn't set up for it.
