Introduction

Hey everyone, this is my first post here. I wrote this poem a little while ago and excited to share!

Not As It Seems
Yapesty is woven by the same grey thread,
Colored in.
Colors change at a moment’s notice.
Coronation attire,
Dressed to deceive.
The dress reappears when the empire's torn at the seams.
Medieval fear—
I can smell
What is odorless, smells when it's rotten.
Carnations-
odorless,
Rotten.
Reappear in time for the ceremony.
The sage burns thyme.
Nothing else to do.
White man burns the sage,
In likeness of an ant flooding its own colony.

We need to buy time,
The kind of time
Only he can afford to buy.
No solid ground, only iron-clad skies.
Yap, yap, yap.
Sound tread.
Double speak, silent threat.
The future is solid,
Like a turtle's shell.
Skies are shelled.
Back's covered in barnacles,
Ripping the shell at the seams.
Cracking sound.
Cackling crowd.
Nothing else to do.
He said, I want the times,
And I want to break your backs too.

Breaking spirits.
Grey flowers bloom
On his head,
Shifting colors
On his cue.
Coronation.
Everyone follows suit.
Grey suits change colors when the time is due.
