Bumblebees In Action - by Sunscape
I had planted a lot of zinnias all around the yard this year, and oh my, I have so many bees gathering pollen from them than ever before. I don't know where they go, or if they colonize, but there are so many of them.
This one was preening on the flower early in the morning by the front porch.
They are good pollinators and help to make the seeds for next year. I just have to gather some before the goldfinches eat them all.
Here is another one just resting on the flower, warming up in the morning sunshine.
These two didn't seem to mind sharing one flower.
Then there are a plethora of honeybees from the breeding boxes a half-mile down the road from my home.
Look at the size of this one's pollen sack. I should ask the honey man if I get a discount for supplying so much nectar for his bee colonies, lol.
I got this cut shot of his butt and laden-down legs.
Even after the birds have cleaned out the seeds on this zinnia, the bumblebee is still searching for pollen.
Of course, I can't forget about all the butterflies that visit the gardens, either. It's a nice cool day to get some trimming done in the gardens, so I'm off to get to it.

I can always hear buzzing from the assorted bees when I'm in the garden. The squash blossoms are always a favorite with them, besides the zinnias and sunflowers.
Most of our daily visitors of bees are gone now. Mos tof the flowers have died or made through their lifecycle already. But when they were blooming, the bees were plentiful.
Much better shots of bees than I got with my old camera. We were speculating the red came from the red zinnias, as there's not much red this time of year.
Oh, I hear you; the bees are so busy on the squash, and that's why we can't keep up with all of it, lol.
You must be a lot colder than us here in upstate, N.Y. I still have plenty of flowers for them to enjoy.
You're probably right, as I have a lot of red and dark orange zinnias. The bees are so busy now that fall is approaching so quickly. The nights are starting to drop down into the low 50's here.
Its been hot and dryer than normal here. I think the wild flowers we have didn't like the heat and sun so much this year.
Still low 60's here at night, but not so bad for sleeping...
