Sunflowers to Bring in the Fall Season - by Sunscape

The gardens are winding down for the most part here in western N.Y. Yet the sunflowers are in full swing, ready to ring in the fall season.

I may have shown that this sunflower was a volunteer that reached the second-story window. I let it grow just to see what it would do.

What really surprised me was that it grew so many side branches that flowered all the way up the stalk. It was so heavy-laden that we cut it down before it landed on all the jalapeno pepper plants.

Every flower was covered with different types of bees. I told them that I would leave them on the back porch for them. After I put all the flowers into a vase, the bees immediately found them.

By the afternoon, the glass-top table was covered in pollen from their gathering.

I think the bees were happy that I left them outside to continue feasting.

Next to the porch, a few smaller sunflowers grew among the hosta and impatiens. They are so small compared to the ones above.

Even these attracted the bumblebees. You can see how much pollen he has gathered on his hind legs.

Today will be another day cutting back the vegetable plants that have finished, along with some more perennial plants throughout the different gardens. That's it for now. I hope you enjoyed the sunflowers and bees.
