Why I started painting African Masks

I started this series with the idea of making African masks cool, contemporary, and relatable which is a shift from the way they are often portrayed as diabolic, evil, or enchanted.

I personally know quite alot of Africans who wouldnt decorate their spaces with African mask arts because of their religions, but i feel that shouldn’t be the case.
Through this series, I explore spirituality, civilisation, personality, and history, while reimagining these powerful cultural symbols through my own artistic language. My hope is that these works find people who connect, understand, and resonate with my style and the stories behind each piece.

I will be making more mask themed portraits soon. Please Stick around for those
