Litecoin vs Bitcoin

So hardforking has got me thinking about litecoin.
Was litecoin not made for smaller, more frequent transactions, with smaller fees? Why dont people use these two currencies in conjunction with eachother? Why dont people just use both currencies instead of constantly trying to split one to make it better? Am i missing something here?

My opinion. Litecoin is great, superfast and effecient bitcoin is great kinda lagging these days but still a great way to transfer huge sums.

But then another question looms. Why dont people just use litecoin, if they want faster transactions and smaller fees???
