STEEM POWER DELEGATION

Hi Everybody,

Can anyone explain how STEEM POWER delegation works? And can someone explain it in layman's term (meaning a regular internet-surfing-gal without background in computer coding or programming can understand it )???

I bought some Steem and converted it to Steempower as someone recommended to me to do it to earn here on Steemit. I just followed as I was instructed but I will be honest, I did it naively that I just followed suit without doing my research on what does delegation means here on Steemit.

And I do not get to log-in on my Steemit account everyday and so I was very surprised to find out today this message on my wallet:

3 days ago Receive 0.001 SBD from blocktrades #Your delegation of 3744.081 SP expires in 47 hours, renew now at https://blocktrades.us/extend-delegation?delegation_id=4b96329e-505b-45c3-9afe-3d2966280e3a

And found out that I only have 13 SP left in the account! I tried to renew it as described on the message above but apparently it expired! I only had 47 hours to renew. But I didn't get any notice thru email so there was no way for me in knowing except if I tried to log in 2-3 days ago. Which I don't have the luxury of time in doing so.

Is there anybody who is an expert with steempower delegation who can tell me if I can do anything to retrieve them? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
