OLD BARNS № 097, 098, 099

These three barns are being shown together for a couple of reasons. First, they were found rather close to each other along the same road, as if perhaps they had belonged to a single farm. And secondly, I used the past perfect verb tense in my last sentence because there's no trace of any of these three structures today. So, all three presented themselves on a fine spring day, not far from each other, and they have all vanished, so it seems fitting to speak of them together.

I actually spent a good bit of time looking for them again, several years after making the photos. I drove slowly down the road, looking closely. Then I went to GoogleMaps™ and went through their archive of StreetView photos and nothing was forthcoming. So, either they were torn down, fell down on their own, or became so completely engulfed by weeds and overgrowth that they're no longer visible. I am learning towards one of the former two choices.

Fortunately, I usually carry a small notebook with me when I'm barn hunting, and made a crude snippet of a map showing a curve in the road, just past which they were located. Had I not done that, and then included the road name when I moved them from my phone to my computer (Old_Barn_097_[EastChurchRd].jpg, etc.), I'd never have remembered exactly where they were.

The first barn initially looked more like a garage to me, a building where someone might park a couple of cars when they weren't on the road. But then I realized the bays were a bit too small for a car, unless they're very small cars. So, I finally surmised that it is a small barn, or at least a storage shed but built in the style of a barn. The drive bays would probably accommodate a standard-sized tractor, the style farmers used decades ago, as well as other farm equipment.

The second structure is bigger than the other two and looks more the size of a conventional barn. It is quite interesting in design — I've never seen another one quite like it. First, there are openings for ventilation at the top of the main door(s), and the hay door (above the main door) appears to open by sliding on a track rather than being hinged. The building is a very simple and symmetrical structure, definitely built more for usage than for show.

To be honest, I wasn't very happy with my own editing of the original photo, nor even with Copilot™'s enhancement. I spent a lot of time manually editing the pic with PaintShopPro™ before turning to Copilot™, and then spent a lot of time in Copilot™ refining the image, then back to PaintShopPro™. So, what is shown is a composite with a lot of manual editing by me plus enhancement from Copilot™, combined. I'm still not 100% satisfied with it, but I've spent way too much time tweaking it, already, so I'm done! What a stubborn barn this was, but it is what it is! 😜

The last of the three is my absolute favorite. Like the first barn pictured, it's smaller than the second one. It has drive bays on both sides that could shelter tractors, tillers, plows, hay, or other things. The really curious bit about this barn is the configuration of door(s) in the middle. I am also enchanted that there are three different colors of wood on this barn, giving it a rather artistic appearance along with that lovely old roof. I would be thrilled to look out my back window each morning and see this barn as I enjoy my morning coffee!
