What is routing & remote access?

We all have those days where we just can't get to work but need to work remotely into our work environment.

So how is that done and achieved? We have a server in our environment that allows us remote vpn, for that to function we need the role routing and remote access to be installed as well as TCP port 1723 to be nat to our server through our firewall.

We as users would then need to setup Microsoft vpn on our pc's and use our domain credentials together with the servers public address to connect.

Once that is done, authentication will be done against the users credentials that's dialing up to vpn and connects them to the server. The user would then be granted access to the internal network and would be able to work as if he/she was in the office.
