The official FAQ can be found here and has A LOT of information https://steemit.com/faq.html - Also remember, Steemit is just ONE of the sites built that uses Steem the blockchain. You should also check out DTube and DSound for starters and if you're a gamer, Steem Monsters! There are many other cool apps but I can't list them all here, there's just too many! But I'd also like to mention Steempeak, it's a better blogging platform that has a lot of cool features. Welcome to the blockchain! :) Oh, and if you're interested in creating your own tokens or smart contracts, check Steem engine!

Wow. That's looks pretty cool. Welcome to Steemit guys. I'm sure you'll find it a great place and there are some wonderful people here. A couple things to help get you started regarding account security.
Always log in on your posting key. This keeps your account safe. You will only need your active key for financial transactions. The private keys can be found in your permissions section in your wallet. Also never log in on your owner key. This is the master password you were given when you signed up.
Write it down and store it somewhere offline safely in case you ever need it to recover your account.
Also beware of spam links. A lot of bad people try to scam honest Steemonians out of their hard earned steem by putting spam links in their comments on posts. Always be wary of these. If you click a link and it asks you to enter your log in details it's spam basically.
