When Mr. Ekanem retired from teaching, he invested part of his savings in a small agricultural cooperative. Some of his friends laughed at him, saying the returns would be too small to matter. Instead of arguing, he remained patient and attended every cooperative meeting, believing that hard work and wise investments would pay off.

His daughter, Ima, was curious about why her father was so committed. One evening, she asked, "Dad, what do you gain from this?" Smiling, he replied, "Every good investment has its reward. That reward is called a dividend."

At the end of the year, the cooperative announced that it had made a profit. Every member received a dividend according to the number of shares they owned. Mr. Ekanem used his dividend to buy books for Ima and repair part of their house. His friends were surprised that his "small investment" had produced meaningful benefits.
