Have you ever visit a Nusfjord? Lofoten, Norway

First question: Have you ever heard of Nusfjord? Does the name seem similar to you?

If not, it definitely should make its way onto your itinerary after reading this blog—especially if you're planning a trip to the Lofoten Islands in Norway. Nusfjord is a tiny fishing village, considered one of the oldest settlements in the region. Archaeological findings suggest that people lived here as early as the 5th century.

That said, the village as we see it today reflects the charm of the 19th century, and every effort has been made to preserve its authentic character. Nusfjord is also recognized as a UNESCO site, which brings a small downside: there’s usually an entrance fee.

The village is nestled deep within the Nusfjorden, and the road leading there is quite an experience in itself. Honestly, I have no idea how people managed this route in the past—chances are, they rarely ventured inland and relied heavily on boats for transport.

At the entrance to the village, there’s a small parking area where you can leave your car free of charge. If you're visiting during peak season, I’d strongly recommend arriving either early in the morning or later in the evening. I can only imagine the crowds that gather here during summer. I visited in early April—well outside the tourist season—and even then, we barely managed to find a parking spot.

The village also features a resort where you can stay overnight—just be ready for a different kind of price tag. A night here will set you back around €200.

As for entering the inner part of Nusfjord, it’s not outrageously expensive—about 100 NOK per person. And if you’re looking to take a break from hiking or long drives, this is the perfect spot to pause and unwind.

Within the village, you’ll find a cozy café, a restaurant, and—perhaps the highlight—a fantastic cinnamon bun you won’t want to miss!

You’ll also come across informational boards throughout the village, explaining the history and purpose of the various buildings, some of which you can even peek inside. Nusfjord is also home to a small art gallery where you can purchase original paintings, adding a creative touch to the village experience.

But Nusfjord isn’t just about charming old cabins. If you're up for a bit of adventure, there are some scenic hiking trails along the coast. One of the most popular routes connects Nusfjord to the neighboring village of Nesland—a hike that offers breathtaking views and a true taste of Lofoten's rugged beauty.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to do the hike myself—we had other trails planned, and there was still quite a bit of snow, so conditions weren’t ideal.

Instead, we chose Nusfjord as a peaceful stop to unwind from the hustle of travel—and it couldn’t have been a better choice! :) There are plenty of places to sit down, relax, and simply take in the view, all while being surrounded by the sound (and sight!) of countless seagulls that call this place home.

So if you’re looking for a place to slow down, breathe in the sea air, or simply enjoy a truly amazing cinnamon bun, this is the spot for you. :)
