Ethical case study 1 - What would you do?

ethics.jpg

In this case, a chemical engineering professor Dr. Alston after spending three months at Eastlands to study the research being conducted by Dr. Naseer on reactor design returns without showing any inclination towards further collaboration. Few months before publishing his paper Dr. Naseer finds that all his work has already been published in the name of Dr. Alston with no mention of him whatsoever. As Dr. Alston had never made any mention of conducting research in a similar field, it is evident that this is a clear case of plagiarism. It is completely unethical to claim someone else’s work as your own or use another’s work without proper citation and acknowledgments. This is an example of what you should never do.

What would you have done if you were Dr. Naseer?
