The child's imaginary friend started appearing in family photographs. It wasn't some made up ghost story. She was four when she began talking about Benny, a boy who liked playing hide and seek and always wore a red shirt. We all thought it was a normal kid stuff, a no consequence thing kids do. Kids invent stories all the time to cope with new changes.

Last summer we were going through old phone pics from her third birthday. There's one of her on the swing set laughing hard. In the background near the window stands a small boy shape blurry like he moved but wearing what looks like red. My sister zoomed in and her face went pale. She said that's exactly how she described Benny, tall for his age messy brown hair, wearing red.

We got worried.

We dug deeper.

Christmas photos from the year before show a shadow figure by the tree that matches. Even a park outing pic has him sitting on the bench next to her but we remember no other kid there that day. She'd just say Benny was keeping her company when she felt lonely after her little brother was born.

So, We asked around.

Turns out a few other parents have similar things blurry extra people in pics that match what their kids said about invisible playmates. No one has proof it's real but it makes you wonder if some imaginary friends are more than imagination maybe just echoes of kids' longings for attention.
