Funny Adventure in Cambodia!

Hello Steemit community!

As I am an addicted to travel I feel that I can give a lot of value in that area to this community, so I’ll start my experience in this platform by sharing one of my funny adventures when traveling in Cambodia, from Phnom Phen to Siem Reap!

After being in Singapore, we entered a completely different country, Cambodia. The way people live there make you think about your own life and starting to humble yourself and appreciate what you’ve been given and conquered in life. Motorcycles with 4/5 people in it, all dirt roads, naked children on the streets, barefoot walking, out of order traffic… all a mix of wonder and caos at the same time.

It was on my bucket list for a long time to visit Siem Reap, home of the big temples that we study in history and see in the Hollywood movies. So being in Phnom Phen, capital of Cambodia, we searched for an adventurous way to go there and we found these night buses with beds inside that take you there through the night and you arrive there in the morning at the sunrise.

That looked fun, so we took it! The place to take the bus was a bit awkward, as we are used to big stations and big venues when travelling 5/6 hours by bus. As we were in Cambodia, the place was pretty humble lol

We hop on the bus, got our two beds and started chatting a bit with our neighbors and made some new friends. As the bus was on the move, we feel asleep. And then came the funniest part… I woke up in the middle of the night and my girlfriend was acting weird. She wanted to use the bus toilet but she couldn’t because the toilet got a problem and the pee was not going down, so imagine…hot weather in Cambodia, hot pee boiling, no water to clean it… that smell was giving everyone vomits, especially to her! The problem was that the bus driver was outside in his break and the door of the bus was locked. I pressed all the buttons in the panel but no way was that door going to open!

Desperate, she pulled a plastic bag and said ‘’enough! I am going to pee in the plastic bag!’’. I replied ‘’Are you out of your mind?! Hold a bit and wait for the driver!”. As I said that everyone woke up and was seeing the scene! She was already on the move to use that plastic bag when the bus driver came in and she run like crazy outside to do her job. We laughed so hard of that moment after that we had a hard time to sleep! lol

When we arrive at Siem Reap, we were “attacked” by tuk-tuk drivers to drive us to the temples, so we had to negotiate with one so he could be our driver the whole day for a cheap value. From the ride in the tuk-tuk till the end of the day we had outstanding views of those wonders. It’s really a magical place… you feel relaxed and feel the intensity of the place at the same time, as those constructions are from another world! The stone colors, the green spaces near them, the locals living their simple life, the faces on the stones and the big roots of the trees “eating” the place make Siem Reap a magical place where you feel connected to Human history in first person. It’s really amazing how could humans bild these beautiful works of art hundreds of years ago.

Definitely recommend this place. It’s a must see in your life. I bet you will never regret of taking the time to visit one of the best wonders that we have in this world.

And if you take the bus, maybe you should go to the bathroom before! 😂
