Day 13: Sunset Over the Bridge

20180417_173205.jpg

Hello my Steemit friends.

The last time I saw you I was celebrating Thingyan in Mandalay. Today's post takes place a little ways outside of the city at the world's oldest and longest teakwood bridge.

U Bein Bridge stretches 1.2 kilometeres across  the Taungthaman Lake. It was built around 1850 and is construced with 1,086 pillars that support the bridge.

We arrived at the bridge around 4pm in hopes of seeing a nice sunset.

The bridge was packed with local villagers and visitors from the city. We talked to a local villager and he told us that many people come to cross the bridge after the New Year celebrations are over.

We first walked across the bridge and checked out the sights below.

As it is the dry season there was not much water under the bridge, but the green fields added a lot of colour to the area.

While the walk across was beautiful, I was more interested in the structure of the bridge itself, so we walked alongside it. To me, this was even more beautiful.

And in the end we found the sunset we were looking for.
