REFERRAL Vs COMPETENCE

REFERRAL Vs COMPETENCE
Sometime in 2016, I had a conversation with my relationship mentor (my eldest sister) that changed my approach to many life's issues.
Here it is;
Me: Sister, I really pray I marry a good wife.
She: Are you sure?
Me: Ah! Ah! Of course, I am.
She: Then, stop praying for a good wife.
Me: What do you mean by that?
She: Prepare yourself to be a good husband, and you will attract a good wife.
There are many people who are hoping and praying that someone somewhere would help them to get a job, an appointment, money for #business or #career recommendation.
That's absolutely fantastic. We all need help at one time or the other. But, the question is how equipped are you to handle such responsibility when it comes? How are you developing yourself in line with what you're praying for?
I have met graduates who do not have a CV, they not know how to write a simple cover letter and cannot construct a simple email, zero people, and technical skills, but, they are hoping someone would give them a job in #SHELL.
During my undergraduate internship at the Department of Petroleum Resources, a top management staff of the organization lost his job because a young man he recommended for internship compromised on the organizational principles.
Here is my advice to you;

  1. Pay less attention to seeking helpers, pay more attention to developing and positioning yourself for opportunities.
  2. When next someone refers you for an opportunity, work your ass out to justify that singular act of gesture.
