Moonshot Thinking

  1. Identify an enormous problem in the world. Gigantic. Galactic.

  2. Propose a science fiction sounding product or service that, if it could be built, would solve the problem.

  3. Show a glimmer of hope, some foothold of technical grounds as to how that product or service could be created.

The context for these three is important and difficult to create in a company culture. Many companies, particularly small startups don’t have the time to devote to this kind of spacious thinking and experimentation. If 5-10% of the company should be working on this, that may be one person 2 days a week. That might be enough, but it might not be.

Perhaps it can’t be done at a < 10 person startup level. Or, if it was done, it was the basis for the insights that led to launching the company, and took a back seat to execution on the idea for fear of death from lack of funding.

I dream of an organization where we invert this. 100% of the company is focused on moonshot thinking all the way down the stack. This means that the top level idea may be a moonshot idea, but each subset of problems encountered in the implementation are approached with this kind of thinking.

Most of the projects will “fail”. That’s okay. Startups operate on power laws anyways. And a studio with a structure to accommodate this means that when one project does hit, massive value is created.

+Tokenization
I believe tokenization is a mechanism that can unlock the structure necessary to produce the conditions for this kind of organization to thrive.

  1. The community builds the project together earning equity for their contribution.

  2. Revenue generated from the company flows back to the community.
