Dailyprompt: First impression

The first time I saw them, something about them felt off.

I couldn’t explain it.
They looked normal… smiled normally… even spoke politely.
But there was something in their eyes.
Too still. Too empty.

I told myself I was just overthinking.
“It’s just a first impression,” I thought.
So I didn't pay much attention and ignored it.

Days passed, and I saw them again.
Same smile. Same calm voice.
But that feeling didn’t go away.
If anything… it got only stronger.

One day, I noticed something strange.
Everyone talked to them.
Everyone laughed with them.
But no one ever stayed for long.
And then… I realized something worse.
No one remembered them either.
Not clearly.

I tried to bring them up in a conversation once.
“Who?” someone asked.
I turned to point at them...
But they were already looking at me.
Smiling.

Like they knew I had finally noticed.
And that’s when it hit me…
Maybe my first impression wasn’t wrong.
Maybe it was a warning.
