Attitude, Character and Behaviour

One thing life has taught me is that your attitude, character and behaviour will take you farther than your talent. I remember back then when I was working in a small company here in Nigeria. We had one guy, very smart, knew his work well, but his attitude was terrible. He talked to people anyhow, always angry, and never ready to listen. At first, everyone respected him because of his skill, but later, people started avoiding him. Even the boss couldn’t stand his behaviour anymore. In the end, he lost the job not because he was not good, but because his character was bad.

I learned something from that experience. In this life, it’s not only what you can do that matters, it’s how you do it and how you treat others. Good behaviour will open doors that talent alone can’t open.

In Korea, for example, people value respect a lot. The way they greet, talk and behave shows deep discipline. A young person will bow to an elder before speaking that’s character. It makes their society more peaceful and orderly. In some parts of Europe, people may not bow, but they still show respect by keeping to time, keeping promises, and minding their words.

Here in Nigeria, we have our own strong culture too. We believe in greeting elders, helping others, and showing kindness. But nowadays, some people are forgetting those values. Some youth talk anyhow online, insult people for no reason, or show pride when they get small money. We need to remember that a bad attitude can destroy what a good opportunity can build.

Your attitude is how you see life. Your behaviour is what people see from you. And your character is what stays when no one is watching.

At the end of the day, it’s not your beauty, money, or intelligence that defines you it’s your attitude and how you make others feel.
