General Attack Monument Eleven March

This one building is one of the few historical tourist locations in Jogja that we should not miss. As the name suggests, this one monument was established to be able to commemorate a massive attack to reclaim Jogja. The attack was an attempt to be able to convince the world, that the State of Indonesia was still there.

This attack itself was led by one of the Subordinates of General Sudirman, namely Lieutenant Colonel Suharto. Whereas the initiator of the general attack was none other than Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX. He wanted to show that the situation in Indonesia was not like that spread by the Dutch. Because, at that time many state leaders had been captured by the Dutch.

The situation was then used by the Dutch to declare that the State of Indonesia was gone. The general attack was not far from the Round Table conference which stated Indonesia's sovereignty. The monument itself was founded to be able to commemorate the services of every hero who participated in the attack at that time. Although not too long, the attack had a huge effect on Indonesian history.
