Survival Tips for Construction Season!
Mater sais “HIYA!” from up here in his peaceful field. Even he can’t believe I have somehow broken into the top 200 @actifit users of all time!
All because of consistent news delivery days and golf outings. I am kinda like the turtle that slowly and steadily wins the race when other bunnies are cranking out 10k steps every day.
This week, my big activity day started out cool and overcast as I looked to the sky. No matter the weather, I strike out every Thursday to deliver the news to over 80 local pick up spots.
Being summer up north here, we also know this as construction season. I understand the crews don’t necessarily want to be working outdoors in the long cold winter but we are a tourist town that welcomes over a million visitors per year!
Like probably every small town in North America, people seem to be consistently complaining about the state of disrepair of the roads. Funny how they pivot to complaining about how many roads are clogged with repair equipment in the summer.
For me, it is no big deal as I am rarely in a hurry and am aware that slight inconveniences are a part of the necessary infrastructure maintenance. Just wave at the guys holding the signs and turn right.
Besides, you just have to turn your eyes away to see art made by local creators to enjoy instead.
Or, you can take a drive to the country to visit your old friend Mater and watch the farmers invert the second cut of hay so it can be dried and baled.
Or, take in the beauty of the blooms and stop to smell the flowers along the way.
Summer is a great season for car watching as well! I am sure old Mustangs like this one hibernate indoors during the long winter and are really looking forward to summer sunshine.
@coinjoe will probably enjoy this one as he is a fan of old trucks. This ~1965 Chevy C10 with the wrap around windshield might do the trick.
For me, I am more of a classic muscle car kinda guy and this 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge is a sight for sore eyes.
I regularly share my view from city hall to cap off my downtown adventure. Well, this is a picture from the sidewalk so you can see me here I am standing. Love this old classic building and the way the wooden floors groan when you walk the halls.
Here is what the view is like this late summer day. Sunny and 25 (77 in freedom units) with blue skies and no chance of rain. Great for 10k steps for sure.
Not fantastic for the garden but I will sign off this week from mine. A little pruning and harvesting, then a solid watering before a well deserved beer.
Thank you for walking with me into the top 200 @actifit users of all time!! I wonder how high I can make it!

That looks like some extensive construction! It's been similar here in this area. The new mayor ran her campaign on the promise to improve roads after the former mayor neglected the roads for two terms (8 years).
Love that C10 for sure! Those classic trucks are the heat.
Haha new mayors have NO idea what they are in for and invariably spend their first term figuring out how things work or getting fired. "Fix our roads and lower taxes!" Well, you get 1 or the other...and more than likely neither.
Being classic farm country, I bet I can spot a bunch more now I am looking for them.

But of course!
Freedom units are the best! Looks like a beautiful day!
That horse sculpture is magnificent !PIMP
You know, I walk by that sculpture every week on my route. It is in the outdoor lounge area for the hospital which has been recently redone and I only recently discovered that it is done by a local artist. Who knew?
Saw this collection.. thought of your Mater.. photo op..
