Hello, there GINA supporters!
If you are a regular user GINA notification services, or been passing by the Minnow-Power Discord server in the past half a day, you know that GINA is currently offline.
This is a quick post to let you know what's happening and to ask your help.
What's happened?
Yesterday afternoon (utc) when I woke up, I took a quick peek on the logs to see if everything was okay. I have noticed that there are many red logs on my monitor. Which doesn't mean good.
Almost no notifications were sent out since a few hours already by than. I have tried to restart the service which usually solves any kind of complicated issue :) No help this time, unfortunately. I have also needed to go to work so no time for further investigation. I eventually decided to shut GINA down as it wasn't working properly.
Later, when I got home from work, I started looking for the cause. At first I thought it's some bug in the code, I'm a coder since 1.5 years only, so I have to check everything twice... I've spent the night with trying to find it and fix the issue but no success.
It's morning now and thanks to some help, it's turned out that the problem is not with the code but rather with my server provider. GINA needs around 50GB/day internet bandwidth but it wasn't available as before. At first I was surprised but thanks to a friend now I know that the provider doesn't support crypto projects so they might will actually ban me if I keep using the server. That I have paid for a year doesn't seem to hold them back since I have violated their TOS. Silly mistake which I will not commit again.
How can you help?
I'm asking your help to cover the cost of setting up a new server somewhere and all I need is an upvote. Please, if you can afford, press the button below and set your scale to 100%!
I will let you know when any news are available and answer all your questions in the comments or on the Discord server but I need to sleep first, it was a long night and I'm tired.

Upvoted and resteemed. GINA is one of the must-have appsi recommend to everyone who uses steemit. You've done this communitya huge service, one that has gone largely unrecognized for far too long.
Maybe you should have run for witness too because after all you are mostly doing this on your own and everyone is benefiting from GINA

What is the VPS? Not Digital Ocean still is it? I have had major slowdown on my DO but i do not see anything about Crypto.

Well, Gina is not doing crypto, she is doing stock notifications. The stocks are named Steem and SBD.

You can filter out whatever you don't want to get. Maybe don't subscribe to transfers, votes and comments, but do subscribe to things like people's posts (I get notifications when interesting people I follow make a post), mentions of certain words, etc.

Could you let people what sort of resources you'd require for hte bot to function? Maybe someone has some spare capacity on a server they operate?

Buildteam is already funding gina development and will gladly provide a server for it to continue existing. We are looking forward to all the awesome new features that are in the works!
You can definitely have my 100 % upvote! I hope you are able to get the funds needed to put Ginabot back online, because Steem would be a much worse place without it.
You have a huge variety of things you can choose to get notified about now, so you should definitely give it a second chance once it gets back online. I pretty much only get notified about mentions, resteems, and posts from a few selected authors, and I don't get much spam. However, I'm probably getting a lot less interactions here than you do, so you might end up getting spammed even when keeping the settings strict.
I have get the advantages from gina, so easy for me to vote for you. Hope you find solutiion @ginabot.

Looks like I'm six hours late to the party, and that things are already taken care of server-wise. Hopefully you and buildteam will be able to get things up and running in short order.
When I first started using GINAbot, I wasn't sure if I would like it. But it didn't take long to realize that whether I liked it or not (which I do, actually) GINAbot was an essential part of my STEEM experience.
So, just like others before me here in the comment section, I hope one way or the other that GINAbot services can continue to roll forth. And if somehow it comes out bigger and better than before, all the more awesome.

Love Love Love seeing all this support feed in to Gina! @ginabot has been an incredibly invaluable tool for the entire length of her existence. So glad I had the opportunity to be an early adopter. I is weird to open up Discord and not have a few messages from Gina telling me about the dust accounts who have unfollowed me. hahaha.
Glad t see accounts like @blocktrades, @reggaemuffin and @acidyo stepping in with their upvotes to help out. I'm going to add Gina to my Auto vote list as my small part to helping out moving forward. Definitely think you should continue to do fundraising for Gina so that you can keep working on the incredible tool we all have access to at no charge.

It's been a bit quiet around here. It's like flying blind all of sudden. Didn't think I would miss it that quickly, but I do. I'm hooked! :)
Update, we got a nice dedicated server for gina and migration will begin soon. @neander-squirrel will announce when gina is up and running again.

Sorry to hear about this misfortune man (then again, 50Gb/month signifies big popularity 😉 which is good news I guess)
Seeing as we're in the same waters, we think helping out one another is the least we can do.
We think that for those not using our Steemify, GinaBot is the very best alternative and should be readily available for those wanting to use it.
It's always a b*tch to lose money, so we hope you get things up and running asap and that our upvote helps at least a bit.

It may just be an excuse. I had that with BOINC and shared hosting. TOS say you are not allowed to use software that destrabilize the server.
Well, BOINC does not do that. It just uses all the ressources that are not used by anyone else. Means the server CPU always runs at 100%.
That is not destabilizing, but of course it costs way more energy than they calculated ;)
