I'm a Steem Whale Looking for Writers

I have a lot of Steem voting power and can help good writers be rewarded for their work by adding them to my bot.

About Me

On the rich list I am @steemed, @itsascam, and @steemroller . I'm a steem whale because I mined early, wasted money on hashes before a relaunch, and mined again without knowing who was behind this project or what the goal was. I just poured resources into mining because it seemed like a coder was on the other end and I thought I might take a chance. I figured out how to mine without any real instructions, and, unlike the dozens or hundreds of junk coins I've mined, have been handsomely rewarded for my efforts.

How I Use My Bot

I run a curation bot and I think it is a good thing, even though others dislike the idea. I currently use my bot as a reading list curator not only for Steem, but for myself. At the end of each day I go back and review what it has voted for and read each article, mostly for enjoyment or information, but also to ensure that the bot is making good decisions. In other words, I tune my bot through its membership rather than trying to improve its voting logic, which in my opinion would be folly.

Until recently, my approach to membership has been to identify authors who have been rewarded previously and configure my bot to up-vote these authors on every post they make. In my opinion, this is a great system and will likely increase my voting power in the future. Right now, though, the authors currently in my bot can not be productive enough to optimize my voting power.

I Am Looking for New Authors

That's where I hope new authors come in. What I need to do is identify some good authors to add to my bot so that I am hitting the optimum voting frequency. By optimizing, I increase my own curation rewards, help to enrich talented authors, and improve Steem in the process. As you might see, this system is implicitly set up as a competition so that good, reasonably productive, authors stay in the bot. I plan to keep this practice up as the number of authors in my bot grows. I anticipate that the number of articles my bot votes for will eventually equal the number I can reasonably review in the same amount of time.

If you are a good author, please respond here and let me know to take a look at your work. If I find your articles interesting, substantive, and also think that your writing will appeal to others, I'll put you in. Beyond that, I expect that authors who get added to my bot will maintain their high standards.

Hi, @steemed . I live a breathe writing and have been trying to make writing my full-time gig for nearly two decades (http://www.ericvancewalton.net).

I've published books and have appeared in literary journals but no matter how hard I try I can't seem to find enough income streams to be able to quit my day job. I realize I'm not alone, there are millions of us out here. I feel our society, especially here in the U.S., doesn't place a high enough value on creativity.

Now that I'm in my forties I find it increasingly difficult to maintain the schedule necessary to keep the day job and continue building my writing career. This is why I was so grateful to have found Steemit. I have hope again. I realize my income from Steemit won't replace my day job but it will be one of the revenue streams that allow me to finally accomplish my goal.

Hi @steemed - thanks for considering me as one of your authors. I'm a philosophy professor who joined recently, and with your patronage I'd certainly be encouraged to contribute more thinky pieces, brain twisters, and polite debate of the type we philosophers are trained for!

Like many philosophers, I have to admit I don't always have an eye for the practical. So the posts I've been writing - like this one on the point of philosophy - are written to be good, without thinking about whether they will be popular. I've also been writing a lot of comments, even though those are rarely profitable.

A great example of good-but-unlikely-to-be-popular, I think, is my recent post on whether to go to a grad school in the humanities. It occurred to me while I was writing it that it definitely won't get much Steem on its own. For one thing, it has some sobering (though important) news for its target audience, and bad news rarely results in upvotes. For another, those rich enough to influence its payout a lot do not have to worry about whether they can afford grad school! But I still diligently wrote it up and posted it, because it's something I've been thinking about carefully for a while, and I wanted to share it.

I plan to post a lot in the #philosophy category, especially on classic philosophical problems and their relations to "real world" problems, and on otherwise fun philosophy puzzles. Since my main expertise is in philosophy of AI, I also plan to write about that. And I want to continue polite debate in the #religion channel.

But I also have a lot of life experience that I've always wanted an excuse to blog about. I'm a semi-professional actor and comic improvisor (yes comic ... my sense of humor is dry, I grant you - to the point of stealth, sometimes). I lived in Japan for three years. I sued telemarketers for over $20,000 in grad school. I'm a compulsive recovering over-achiever who was hospitalized for stress in high school, went to Harvard, and finally started confronting achieverism in therapy during grad school. In the past two years I had my first two kids, so parenting is very much on my mind. You get the idea.
